RAT (Ride Around Town) Rides
are casual paced fun-rides designed to explore different areas across Fort Collins each ride. Friendly, experienced ride leaders, a no attitude, no drop pace, stopping to smell the flowers and talk about road conditions. RAT rides explore a different low stress bike route each month and every ride ends over beers at a local watering hole.
(Don’t let is scare you, but a summary of each ride in the form of a route guide is posted and reported to FC Bikes).
Tuesday July 18 – 2017 kickoff ride. I’ve heard more comments about poor conditions crossing I25 than any other single route idea, so: Meet at NBB, ride east on Vine then Mulberry to Co Rd. 5, south to Prospect, back west to the Poudre Trail, and then either downtown to NBB or City Park for some food. This is about a 12mi route and the part crossing I25 will have some fast traffic, so if you’re not comfortable with it, you may want to wait for a more comfortable ride.
Tuesday Aug 1 – Neighborhood Night Out ride. No route plan yet, but I’d really like some creative ideas for this one.
Tuesday Aug 22 – Regular Aug. ride. Preview ride west on the Pitkin Bikeway which is mostly done. Meeting location TBD. When we cross take a detour down to the Centre underpass and then back to Pitkin.
Tuesday Sept. 19 – Regular Sept. ride. Route TBD.
We’ve made a couple changes from last year. Overall RAT rides are still advocacy focused, but with a stronger emphasis on fun rides. That means we will now depend upon you as riders to capture any detailed ride notes and forward them on to the appropriate entities. We will communicate big comments, issues, or ideas from our rides on the BFC FB page. Our ride routes will be focused as much on fun as trying to find some infrastructure in need of improvement. If you have specific route ideas, send them along.
One advantage of riding on Tuesday evenings is we can take advantage of the Food Truck Alliance in City Park. We’ll try to end a couple rides there instead of the traditional brewery. If you have other location ideas for starting or ending rides, please also send them along.
Hopefully you can join us for at least some rides this year. Feel free to pass this message along to your friends. The only requirements are wearing helmets, obeying the rules of the road, and having fun.
