HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED CONFLICT?
In our June issue of The Pedal Post (eNewsletter), Bike Fort Collins revisted our original intersection focus location at Overland Trail and Drake Road. A little over a year ago we observed considerable confusion and conflict at this location as bicycle and vehicle right-of-way seemed to be unlcear. Now that the bike lane has a fresh coat of green paint for better visibility and right-of-way assertion, we asked our readers to offer their insights and experiences with the new application.
Thank you to those who responded. Below is a recap of the results.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In addition, we also asked how this intersection might be further improved. Here is a sampling of the responses we received:
- “Flashing yield to bikes sign for cars approaching the intersection”
- “More signage or lights to alert motorists to slow down and give 3 ft or more space to cyclists and pedestrians”
- “A guided left turn options for bikes turning left onto drake as they bike south on overland”
- “the paint has done a terrific job of making it safer, THANKS!!!”
Again, thank you to all who responded—and for sharing their experiences. Stay tuned for additional surveys inquiring about other intersections and bicycle facilities.
