CAN FORT COLLINS BE THE AMSTERDAM OF THE U.S.?
June 30, 2021 –That is the question we posed during Colorado Bike Month in June while bringing back the Bicycle Film Festival for a second, virtual round. As a starting point to answering the question, we were excited to share and host the feature length documentary, Together We Cycle, which chronicles the history and bumpy road The Netherlands endured to foster and establish the bike culture it’s known for today. Bringing this film to the community was well-timed as Fort Collins aspires to become a Diamond-Level Bicycle Friendly Community–maybe even the first city (based on the League of American Cyclist’s Bicycle Friendly America Program) and was very germane given BFC’s vision: For Fort Collins to be perceived as being the Amsterdam of the U.S. when it comes to bicycling.
ROAD IMPROVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES PRESENTED TO BAC
June 29, 2021 — BFC was appreciative of the opportunity to present infrastructure improvement opportunities to the City’s Bicycle Advisory Committee (BAC) again in June. Two of the three opportunities featured stretches of road that we’ve also included in our monthly Intersection-Facility Focus surveys in the past, while the third entailed the proposal to put Riverside Avenue on a road diet.
BIKE FORT COLLINS’s 2021 AGENDA
February 19, 2021 — Bike Fort Collins is optimistic for a productive year in 2021 and we look forward to continuing to provide quality programs and services. As always, Bike Fort Collins will continue to deliver the Safe Routes to School program as well as many more innovative initiatives and programs. And, new for this year, we’ve aligned our agenda and all our focus areas with the League’s 5 E’s.
Safe Routes to School Video Series Created for Reference During Remote Learning
June 1, 2020 — Given the COVID-19 pandemic, Bike Fort Collins has not been able to deliver Safe Routes to School programming as it traditionally would. In response to this, Bike Fort Collins and the City of Fort Collins pivoted the programming model and have developed a series of videos featuring many of the topics that are typically taught as part of the Fort Collins Safe Routes to School curriculum. We encourage students and parents to reference these while the school district is in “remote learning.”
SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL
Bike Fort Collins’ flagship program, we are very proud to have started this great education initiative with the City of Fort Collins back in 2012 benefiting the next generation of cyclists. Each semester, Bike Fort Collins is proud to deliver all associated instruction to K-12 city schools within Poudre School District.
