Ride of Silence
Tonight we number many but ride as one
In honor of those not with us, friends, mothers, fathers, sisters, sons
With helmets on tight and heads down low,
We ride in silence, cautious and slow
The wheels start spinning in the lead pack
But tonight we ride and no one attacks
The dark sunglasses cover our tears
Remembering those we held so dear
Tonight’s ride is to make others aware
The road is there for all to share
To those not with us or by our side,
May God be your partner on your final ride
RIDE OF SILENCE
The 2025 Ride of Silence will take place on Wednesday, May 21. This solemn, no-drop ride is held at a casual pace to honor cyclists who have lost their lives on the roads in and around Fort Collins, including Ian Dickinson, who was tragically killed on Route 38E on April 27, 2025.
Held annually on the third Wednesday in May, the Ride of Silence is a nationally recognized event that commemorates fallen cyclists and raises awareness about the need for safer streets for all.
This year’s ride will follow the same route as last year, selected for its relative safety and accessibility. Along the way, we will stop at several key locations to pay tribute to those we’ve lost. These include the intersection of Lemay Avenue and Centennial Road, where George Rigby, 81, was fatally struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on February 26, 2023, and the intersection of McMurry Avenue and Harmony Road, where Jim Defazio, 76, was killed by a vehicle traveling eastbound on February 27, 2023.
We invite the community to join us in this important ride of remembrance and solidarity.

From the official Ride of Silence website:
“-Ride of Silence will traverse and unite the globe as nothing before it. Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn’t aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves.”
In accordance with the recommendations of the Ride of Silence website, we alwasys ask that you follow these ride guidelines:
- Remember and honor those who’ve been hit & killed while riding or seriously injured
- Ride slowly and a relatively short distance – this is not a race
- Ride in Silence – this a ride to reflect and remember those we lost
- Wear a helmet & obey road laws for bicyclists

In Memoriam
This page serves as a lasting tribute and memorial to honor the lives of cyclists who have tragically lost their lives as a result of crash involving motor vehicles. It is a permanent space for remembrance, reflection, and recognition—where we can pause to remember those who are no longer with us, acknowledge the impact of their loss on families and communities, and renew our collective commitment to making our streets safer for everyone who rides.
