HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED CONFLICT?
In our June issue of The Pedal Post (eNewsletter), Bike Fort Collins posed the question: “Have you experienced conflict or felt unsafe while traveling through the intersection of E. Vine Drive and N. Timberline Road?”
Thank you to those who responded. Below is a recap of the results.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In addition, for those who reported conflict, we asked them to describe their experience. Here is a sampling of the responses we received:
- “Cars don’t respect bike right of way.”
- “Very narrow bike lane right after going west on Vine through the intersection.”
- “Crossing rough RR tracks.”
- “It’s my experience that vehicles tend to roll through the stop and – on occasion- cyclists aren’t given the time to cross the road before the vehicle in the opposing direction begin moving.”
- “With the train tracks, 4-way stop and lots of traffic you must be vigilant crossing this intersection.”
HOW CAN IT BE IMPROVED?
Finally, we asked respondents how they thought the intersection/facility could be improved. Here is a sampling of the responses we received:
- “Better bikelane right of way defined.”
- “Traffic light.”
- “I think slowing the speed down on E Vine would help. also approaching the intersection having more Ped/Cycling signage/barriers/paint etc… to bring attention to this area would help.”
- “Honestly, I’m not sure. I don’t think a light is the option. Maybe just some awareness of cyclists at that intersection?”
- “Wider shoulder and smoother tracks.”
- “New traffic control devices, expand visibility at the intersection, wider shoulders/bike lanes.”
- “Better bike lanes in all directions near the intersection.”
Again, thank you to all who responded—and for sharing their experiences. Stay tuned for additional surveys inquiring about other intersections and bicycle facilities.
