In our November 2025 issue of The Pedal Post (eNewsletter), Bike Fort Collins posed the question: “Have you experienced conflict or felt unsafe while traveling through the intersection of East Harmony Road and South Timberline Road?”

Thank you to those who responded. Below is a recap of the results.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In addition, for those who reported conflict, we asked them to describe their experience. Here is a sampling of the responses we received:

  • While walking my bike southbound on Timberline I had waited for the crossing light to turn before walking into the crosswalk. I was 15 feet into my crossing when a vehicle drove toward me. I was startled and stopped. The vehicle then tried to go around me but stopped when I waved an arm at them. I have had similar close calls with vehicles at all four corners. Drivers appear to be in a hurry or don’t know that pedestrians and cyclists have the right-of-way when in the crosswalk with the crossing signal activated.
  • I don’t feel unsafe, per-se, but this is a huge intersection requiring attentive defensive bicycling.
  • Cars turn on red over the cross walk.

    HOW CAN IT BE IMPROVED?

Finally, we asked respondents how they thought the intersection/facility could be improved. Here is a sampling of the responses we received:

    • Make dedicated right turn lanes with crosswalk from the sidewalk to a pedestrian island. The intersection at Timberline and Horsetooth on the Westside (southbound Timberline/ east and west bound Horsetooth) is the right solution.
    • Green striping like that added to Harmony/McMurray, and many other intersections.
    • Add signs that say turning right must yield to bicycles and Pedestrians, hopefully with a blinking red light.
    • If not already present, green paint for better indication of bike lane.

Again, thank you to all who responded—and for sharing their experiences. Stay tuned for additional surveys inquiring about other intersections and bicycle facilities.
