Southeast Fort Collins has long been missing a vital connection to the City’s expansive trail network, but that’s about to change. The Siphon Pedestrian Overpass, set to open in 2025, will bridge the gap by linking the new Mail Creek Trail to the existing Power Trail, creating a safer and more accessible pathway for pedestrians and cyclists alike.

The overpass will span the Union Pacific Railroad tracks between Harmony Road and Trilby Road, addressing a critical need voiced by nearby neighborhoods, schools, and businesses. Currently, this area has a two-mile gap in connectivity, leaving few safe options for crossing. The Siphon Overpass will fill this void, offering a secure connection for recreation and commuting.

This project builds on recent trail expansions, including the Mail Creek Trail, which debuted in 2024. The Mail Creek Trail starts at Zephyr and Tilden, passes behind Bacon Elementary, and runs through the City’s upcoming Schoolside Park, set to open in 2025. It also features an underpass at Timberline Road, providing a seamless link to the Power Trail.

As one of Fort Collins’ most significant north-south trails, the Power Trail connects to the Spring Creek Trail at its northern end and extends south to the City of Loveland’s trail system near Carpenter and Lemay. With the completion of the Siphon Pedestrian Overpass, residents and visitors will enjoy a more connected, bike-friendly community, making it easier to travel safely and sustainably across the city.
