Last Friday we hosted another Youth Coalition event where we took the public bus from Poudre Valley Mobile Home Park to Chipper’s Lanes to play Laser Tag.

As a component of the Bike Fort Collins Active Living program, we taught the youth how to ride the Transfort public bus system (which is free with a school ID), including how to check the bus schedule, and how to do a bus combination at the depot. The kids loved playing laser tag and got some great exercise! While sharing pizza afterwards, we discussed with the youth future outings they would like to participate in, neighborhood park improvements they wanted to see, and their safety concerns in their neighborhood at nighttime.

The Youth Coalition discusses their neighborhood during a group outing (July, 2019)

Previous youth coalition events included swimming at City Park, family and neighborhood walks, and a hike at Lory State Park. The youth coalition has been a great opportunity for neighborhood kids to get outside with their friends. The youth’s insight into their neighborhood has led to important safety changes and has been instrumental in designing a new, forthcoming playground.
