This fall, Bike Fort Collins, with the continued support of Your Group Ride and Scheels Johnstown, proudly brought back MyCycle for its second year. This build-and-give program, rooted in our mission of equity and access, ensures every second grader at Poudre School District’s (PSD) Title 1 schools receives a brand-new bike and helmet—opening doors to freedom, confidence, and lasting memories.
Building on the incredible success of its inaugural year, MyCycle expanded its reach once again. To make the experience even more impactful, we decided to give the bikes earlier this year, allowing students to enjoy them while the weather is still good and to ride them to school during October’s Walk and Roll Month.
In addition to serving second graders, MyCycle introduced an exciting pilot program at Putnam Elementary, where every 5th grader also received a bike and helmet. This new effort supports older students in staying active and independent, while also preparing them for the transition to middle school with safe, reliable transportation. With the success of this pilot, we hope to expand the 5th grade program district-wide in the future, further broadening MyCycle’s impact.
This year’s program would not have been possible without the generosity of our sponsors and community partners. We are grateful to YourGroupRide.com, VanMeveren Law Group, Dohn Construction, Houska Automotive, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Experience Plus!, Cushman & Wakefield, Platte River Power Authority, New Belgium Brewing and Trent Newcomer Donor Advised Fund for their steadfast support in providing hundreds of bikes and helmets to PSD’s Title 1 schools.
A highlight once again was the cycling community’s fundraising challenge, led by Dan Porter of YourGroupRide.com. Teams and clubs across Fort Collins came together in friendly competition to see which group could fund the most bicycles and helmets, with Team B.O.B. stepping up and taking the win by raising $4,585. Northern Colorado Grassroots Riders raised $3,600, and Breakaway Cycles contributed $2,620, helping bring the total amount donated via the Team Challenge to $23,230. Collectively, the cycling community helped fund over a 120 bikes and helmets, proving the power of collaboration and generosity.
Over two exciting days, more than 190 volunteers joined forces to transport, assemble, and deliver the bikes and helmets. Thanks to their hard work—and the unparalleled generosity of Scheels—students were riding away with their new bikes before the end of the school day, their smiles a testament to the impact of this effort.
We are deeply thankful to every volunteer, sponsor, and supporter who made the second year of MyCycle another resounding success. Together, we are not only giving bikes but also creating opportunities, inspiring confidence, and fostering a lifelong love of cycling. With the addition of the 5th grade pilot program, we look forward to building on this momentum and expanding MyCycle’s reach even further in the years ahead.
