In our May 2025 issue of The Pedal Post (eNewsletter), Bike Fort Collins posed the question: “Have you experienced conflict or felt unsafe while traveling through the intersection of West Elizabeth Street and South Overland Trail?”
Thank you to those who responded. Below is a recap of the results.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In addition, for those who reported conflict, we asked them to describe their experience. Here is a sampling of the responses we received:
- “Cars traveling south, coming from the north, can be hard to see. This is important if you’re traveling west and wanting to turn left to go south.”
- “Trying to cross Overland in either direction from Elizabeth is a nightmare for cars, bikes, and pedestrians. Same danger for all modes when trying to take a left from Elizabeth onto Overland. Cars drive way too fast on Overland and there are multiple lanes and too many possible modes of transportation at one intersection with no traffic calming strategies.“
HOW CAN IT BE IMPROVED?
Finally, we asked respondents how they thought the intersection/facility could be improved. Here is a sampling of the responses we received:
- “Traffic light.”
- “Add a light.”
- “It’s fine, leave it alone!”
- “It’s fine.”
- “At the very least, a round about but most people don’t use them properly. A timed traffic light with designated crosswalks is needed.”
Again, thank you to all who responded—and for sharing their experiences. Stay tuned for additional surveys inquiring about other intersections and bicycle facilities.
