In our November 2024 issue of The Pedal Post (eNewsletter), Bike Fort Collins posed the question: “Have you experienced conflict or felt unsafe while traveling through the intersection of West Mulberry Street and Jackson Avenue?”
Thank you to those who responded. Below is a recap of the results.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In addition, for those who reported conflict, we asked them to describe their experience. Here is a sampling of the responses we received:
- “Going north pavement markermarkers direct bikes at angle onto Jacson from behind parked cars.”
- “Ummm. Well the bike lane dumps you out just past parked diagonal cars and two directions of turning and passing cars.”
HOW CAN IT BE IMPROVED?
Finally, we asked respondents how they thought the intersection/facility could be improved. Here is a sampling of the responses we received:
- “On northbound City Park bikeway (as one goes from the sidewalk on to Jackson Ave. northbound), it can be difficult to see cars going south on Jackson Ave. because if a lot of cars are parked at City Park, they obscure the line of sight. Better signage on the roadway would help as well as a set-back in the parking spaces.”
- “Send bikes to perpedicular Jackson Mullberry corner for more logical crossing location.”
- “I believe mulberry at this intersection should follow this similar road layout that we are about a half mile west with single lane traffic in each direction rather than the two lanes.”
- “Expand the bike lane parallel with the sidewalk until the magnolia point I guess. Not sure other others besides don’t let cars take a left turn heading east on mulberry and removing some parked car spots on Jackson so everyone has better visibility.”
Again, thank you to all who responded—and for sharing their experiences. Stay tuned for additional surveys inquiring about other intersections and bicycle facilities.
