Earlier this fall, Bike Fort Collins with the help of YourGroupRide and Scheels Johnstown proudly launched MyCycle, an inspiring new program powered by our commitment to equity and access. This bike build-and-give initiative provides every second grader at Poudre School District’s (PSD) Title 1 schools with a brand-new bike and helmet, fostering freedom, independence, and lifelong memories.
In its first year, MyCycle made an extraordinary impact, reaching every second-grader at Bauder, Harris, Irish, Johnson, Laurel, and Linton Elementary Schools. This achievement marks a significant step in empowering our local youth and fostering the joy of cycling in our community.
We are thrilled to share that MyCycle’s success was made possible by the incredible support of our sponsors, including YourGroupRide.com, Dohn Construction, Experience Plus!, Houska Automotive, In-Situ, New Belgium Brewing, Noble Foundation, Norris Design, VanMeveren Law Group, and Westminster Presbyterian Church. Their generosity was instrumental in funding more than 230 bikes and helmets for PSD’s Title 1 schools.
A highlight of this effort was the Fort Collins cycling team and club community’s friendly fundraising contest, initiated by Dan Porter of YourGroupRide.com. This year, the Poudre Sunrise Cyclists claimed top honors, raising over $6,400 to fund nearly 35 bikes. Altogether, these teams and clubs contributed to more than 90 bikes and helmets, showcasing the profound impact of collective action.
With the overwhelming support of our sponsors, community, and the unparalleled generosity of Scheels, MyCycle achieved its ambitious goal. Over two action-packed days, more than 170 volunteers came together to transport, assemble, and deliver hundreds of bikes and helmets—a monumental effort involving two truckloads of equipment. Thanks to their unwavering dedication, every bike was in students’ hands before the school day ended, sparking smiles of joy and wonder on young faces.
Thank you to every volunteer, sponsor, and supporter who made MyCycle’s inaugural year such a phenomenal success. Together, we are changing lives, instilling confidence, and inspiring a new generation of cyclists. We can’t wait to build on this momentum and make an even greater impact in 2025!
