With temperatures in the 50s and a mild wind in the air, better weather could not have been had for Bike the Lights 2021. Gathering on the evening of Thursday, December 23rd at Alleycat Coffee House, riders arrived in the spirit of the holidays decked out with various forms of joyful illumination. What started out as a rather small group at 5:45pm, grew to a crew of 70 strong by our 6pm (ish) rollout. Adding to the festive vibe, we are particularly grateful to Scott Bolte of FOCO Bike Mob for hauling out the trailer, speaker, smoke machine and usual FOCO Bike Mob accoutrements.
Heading west on Laurel, we broke into two groups and enjoyed a leisurely pedal through Old Town West. Making a right on Loomis Ave, meandering along Oak St., a brief stint on Mountain Ave. and coasting down West St, we eventually found ourselves at one of the area’s most revered and respected light displays at the corner of West St. and Sycamore Ave. Making our way back into town, both groups reunited at Old Town Square for a group photo, commemorating the jolly crowd of yuletide bike folks.
Back at Alleycat Coffee House, we enjoyed more bike camaraderie, Bike Fort Collins swag handouts, AND a prize give-away courtesy of TREK North. Three lucky winners went home with a set of bike lights and bells. Many thanks to TREK North for their support. Next year we’ll intend to include a designated photographer for a more complete capture of all the happy, shining faces from our community who came out to make this a happy, safe, and joyful bike loving holiday event. Here’s to Bike the Lights 2022!
Many thanks to Alleycat Coffee House for allowing us to host this event at their location.
