Building off the success of the “How the Dutch Do It” Webinar Series that the City of Fort Collins’ FC Moves Department hosted last year, this year they are hosting an in-person ThinkBike Workshop. And like last year, BFC has again been invited to participate.
In partnership with Dutch experts from Mobycon, Goudappel Coffeng, and the Dutch Cycling Embassy, representatives from each of those organizations will be in town from the Netherlands April 18-20 for a three-day workshop. The aim of the workshop is to help Fort Collins learn how to build a cycling network that, as in the Netherlands, is safe and suitable for people of all ages, abilities, and for different types of bicycles. Topics will include learning about the “software, hardware, and orgware” required to create a world-class city for cycling, as well as the Dutch approach to network, corridor, intersection, and signal design. BFC’s representative and other Invited participants will do a deep dive into case study projects recommended in the Active Modes Plan with guidance from the Dutch experts. The intent is for the workshop to help kickstart implementation of the Active Modes Plan.
As part of the ThinkBike Workshop, as a culmination to the three-day program, the City will also be hosting a public film screening of “Together We Cycle” and a panel discussion on Thursday, April 20 from 6:00 – 7:30 PM in the New Belgium Brewing. After the film, BFC’s own, Dave Dixon, will moderate a panel discussion with Dutch experts and City representatives about the future of cycling in Fort Collins and what we can learn from the Netherlands. BFC is especially excited to be part of this, as it hosted the screening of “Together We Cycle” as part of a virtual Bicycle Film Festival back in June 2021 in conjunction with the unveiling of our vision for Fort Collins to be the Amsterdam of the U.S. when it comes to cycling.
