The mission/purpose of the Friends of the Fort Collins Bicycle Program, Inc., d.b.a. Bike Fort Collins is to increase participation in active transportation and advance bicycle culture and policy changes, creating safer streets and communities, while also creating an inclusive and empowering culture for all bicyclists, regardless of ability or identity. At its essence, More Bikes. Safe Streets.
PROGRAM RESULTS
Despite the unprecedented situation created by COVID-19, Bike Fort Collins delivered on its mission/purpose in 2020 with the following program highlights:
- Concluded 3-year Active Living Program and Kaiser Permanente Foundation grant, to positively impact healthier (active modes) lifestyles within the Poudre Valley Mobile Home Park
- Given remote learning within Poudre School District (PSD), in our longstanding partnership with FC Moves, pivoted Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Programming to develop a video series (20+ videos) in order to still deliver the curriculum
- As an addition under our SRTS Programming, introduced the inaugural Wish for Wheels FoCo Program, delivering 260 bikes to kids in PSD Title 1 schools who don’t have one
- Supported FC Moves in rightsizing and then, due to COVID-19, ultimately sunsetting the Pace Bike Share Network
- As part of New Road Signage Initiative, secured commitment from Larimer County to install 60 new road signs on county roads over the next 3 years—and with CDOT to install up to 10 new signs on Highways 14 and 34 respectively
- Actively participated on URA North Fort Collins Investment Planning Stakeholder Group (as a voice for bicycling) to help determine development priorities for the North Fort Collins/College Ave. corridor
- Developed Intersection/Facility Focus Initiative –presenting initial set of improvement opportunities to Fort Collins Bicycle Advisory Committee (BAC) and the City of Fort Collins Transportation Board
- Played supporting role in bringing Ride for Racial justice to Fort Collins—and the promoted the ride locally
- Introduced a Paint the Pavement Initiative to cost effectively improve cycling safety (more to come in 2021)
FINANCIAL & OPERATIONAL RESULTS
Again, despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, Bike Fort Collins achieved its Program Results in accordance with financial performance depicted below, as well as accomplished the following organizational and operational highlights:

- Recruited four new and talented Board Members: Lisa Butler, Brendon Clarke, Jame Gaskill and Trent Newcomer
- Developed and launched a brand new bikefortcollins.org website in July 2020
- Relaunched the Bike Fort Collins Membership Program in May 2020—333 members as of 12/31/2020
- Participated in and was a grateful beneficiary of New Belgium Brewing’s first-ever “Virtual” version of Tour de Fat
- Despite COVID-19, hosted the following Community Rides/Events: Galentine’s Ride, Remington Bike Counter Challenge and Kids Bike Art Contest, Thanksgiving’s Turkey Hot Lap Challenge, and the Holiday Season’s “Virtual” Bike the Lights
- Supported FC Moves’s Shift-Your-Ride Month in September 2020—and the Shift Your Ride Challenge
- Published the BFC Bicycle Holiday Gift Guide and Coloring Fun for Kids Project
